Seed note — summary view of this taxonomy levelEquipment that holds process inventory without moving it: atmospheric tanks (ISO 14224 class TA), pressure vessels and spheres. Families and handbooks in Phase 1.

Equipment whose function is to hold inventory — raw material, intermediates or product — without adding energy or transforming the fluid. It is the static frontier of the collection: the risk lies not in moving parts but in loss of containment.

Usual types (own families and handbooks in Phase 1):

  • Atmospheric tanks (API 650) — fixed and floating roof; they correspond to class TA (storage tanks) of ISO 14224:2016;
  • Pressure vessels (ASME Section VIII) — accumulators, surge drums, process vessels;
  • LPG spheres and bullets — liquefied gases under pressure.

From a reliability standpoint, corrosion (internal and under insulation — CUI), nozzle fatigue and foundation/shell failure dominate — slow mechanisms, with risk-based inspection (RBI) as the typical strategy.
